San Juan, Puerto Rico voted most favorite city by readers of Travel & Leisure magazine

Congratulations to us again- Puerto Rico has won another International opinion poll. This time it was by the readers of Travel & Leisure magazine. San Juan was voted number one in attractive people, New Year’s Eve, Christmas and winter destination, and Ethnic food.

Now the bad news! We were voted #21 in cleanliness. Shame on us and shame on those in charge of cleaning San Juan. There is absolutely no reason for Puerto Ricans to tolerate dirty Streets, unkempt public areas or dirty, littered beaches.

Street cleaners are ultimately sanctioned by political parties but even that should not mean they shouldn’t do their job and keep their assigned street sparkling clean. They do not because no one supervises their work.

The beaches are dirty because no one is responsible for cleaning them- and often there are not enough trash receptacles. There are thousands of extra government employees doing nothing. Let’s assign a couple of hundred to keeping the beaches pristine.

The same should be done with parks and public places. (Sherman's Monday Memo October 17, 2011) (http://www.facebook.com/notes/radio-woso-1030-am/shermans-monday-memo-october-17-2011/10150342041344690)

No. 1 San Juan, P.R.

They’re gorgeous, they dress fabulously, and you can’t even hate them: the locals in the sunny Puerto Rican capital rank high for friendliness as well as attractiveness. They also know how to charm visitors with simple pleasures: San Juan ranked near the top for its café con leche, and won the street food category.
